Well, apparently I learned a valuable lesson in using the right tools this weekend. After being initially unable to find new sounds to spend my tax refund on, I decided that I should buy Finale and finally get somewhere with my band composition. I’m using the demo as I wait for it to arrive, but, yes, it turns out this is the right tool for the job. Even including the fairly significant time spent with the help files, I have over two minutes of band music written this weekend (minus percussion, which I haven’t quite figured out how to do using finale. Two minutes of music is significant for me. What I’m seeing is the relationship of the parts – something I was missing when trying to compose using Cubase.
Here’s a snippet. Don’t forget its missing some parts – most of the percussion and an electronic track. I also didn’t figure out early on in this process how to do tied notes, so some of them here are not tied where they are supposed to be. Ack, why am I even explaining this stuff? It’s a work in progress!
